The Birth of MZA
MZA – Meaning and Purpose MZA was created in loving memory of your younger brother Bhekumzana Charles Ngwabi, affectionately known as Mza, whose untimely passing in 2021 marked the beginning of your own journey through grief. The name MZA carries layered meaning: it is drawn from his name, but also from the words Moya (spirit/air), Zwi (spoken word/silence), and Azi (to know/acknowledge), reflecting growth, healing, and remembrance. The initiative was born out of a deeply felt gap in your community, where families facing loss had little to no structured, dedicated grief support. In the years that you and your family grieved, you searched for spaces of comfort and guidance but found none that truly met the need. Out of that hunger and absence, MZA’s Grief Nest was established—to pilot grief hubs where individuals and families could find compassion, acknowledgement, and community as they navigate the complex journey of loss.
